My five yr old talks and talks and talks and... Just like my BIL did as a kid. Now he makes his living talking.

Have you tried a yoga class? They help encourage mindfulness, meditation, etc. Look, I have a chatty kid myself -- and I love it -- but I can totally understand wanting some peace and quiet, and I also understand kids needing to learn the value of quiet, mindfulness, etc.

One of our older friends whose kids have grown up and left the house tells us that she "misses hearing the little voices piping from the back car seat." So I try to keep that in mind when my kid is chattering nonstop.

My son is 3 years old and cannot talk..... Be proud that your son can talk as i have waited and nothing comes out of his mouth.

My 3 yo is another nonstop gab machine, including the singing and humming others mentioned. Most of the time, it's just plain old adorable, and we have recorded a few choice moments. (Now that she's into potty humor, some of it isn't for all audiences, but whatever.)

Could you try redirecting him to bombard others with his chatter? At that age, he probably has real friends he can call on the phone, as opposed to DD, who is encouraged to share her thoughts with her stuffed animals.

My four-year-old starts talking a mile a minute non-stop when she eats something sugary, chocolate, or artificial. It is a sight to hear.

This is so funny OP. But yes, I feel your pain. Mine still has not out grown it at 10. He the "sensitive one" so we just let him go on and on. His friends will tell him to zip it, don't worry.

My son is the same way. I talk to a psyc. myself, for moral support being a single mother of 4. I've been doing alot of discussing my 10 year old son. He is a special child with incredable abbilities. And let me tell you I know no mother wants to hear that your child needs some sort of extra attention that you can't provide. I can't remember the exact discription but there is a word that goes with a child who tells EVERYTHING. There are times when I have to take time outs myself cause I can't handle it and NEED the quiet. Talk to someone with the expertise of autism/aspergers. It may only be the one single symptom but it's there and your concerned, it's worth a try to check it out!!!

Don't count on it stopping when he hits the teen years. My talker didn't. When he was little, I used to tell him that my ears couldn't listen anymore. Now I sometimes have to escape to the bathroom.

You made me giggle. . My five year old is a talker too - his run on sentences crack me up. He also has twin brothers who were speech delayed but now at3.5 they give him a run for his money and our house is rarely quiet. That said, they do all have periods where they are quiet. Talking totally non stop seems excessive but some people are just chatty.

PP you quoted here. I have one of each as well. Even so, I don't worry so much about my obsessive talker so much as my little guy who is unable to communicate very well.
