Welcome to D.C., OP!

It's like TSA who took it. They have more opportunity.

File a police report AND file a complaint with TSA. The police report might make them take it seriously.

Never check valuables in the future. Definitely lock all bags with TSA locks. Even though it's likely a TSA employee taking things, s/he would most likely choose an unlocked bag because it gives him/her a cover -- it could have been someone else.

Ha! Good luck with that.

You'll never know if you don't try.

Not just for the theft risk-- even if it wasn't stolen, I wouldn't trust one bit that it wouldn't come back in 50 pieces.

Don't put anything fragile or valuable in your checked bags, EVER!

I'm shocked too. I'm sorry that you experienced the theft, but I can't imagine anyone thinking it would be a good idea to check a laptop!

always have a cloud backup for your laptop. Think of it as a replaceable vessel and the data is what needs to be saved consistently.

She probably has a job that does not magically disappear when she punches out at the end of the day.

There is no need to judge OP here. There are so many reasons why she might need her laptop- maybe she had work to do? Maybe she agreed to help a friend out by editing a paper they wrote or helping on some other project? Maybe she wanted to Skype with her husband? Who knows? People are so quick to judge but the reality is there are a hundred possible reasonable explanations for OP needing her computer.

First--so sorry. That sucks! I agree with pps--never check anything of value if it can be avoided. There are tons of reports of what happened to you.

Any meds, jewelry, computers, ipads, $, etc. go with us on the plane. Only clothes are in our luggage. It does mean more juggling and being more streamlined when packing--particularly when you have baby gear too.
