Try Bermuda. The flights are cheap and really short.

also you must remember that if you're traveling abroad you might need a visa. and it can cost money...

The cost of a cruise adds up SO FAST. Once you factor in excursions, souvenirs, alcohol, tips, cabs at the islands... we went on a cruise this summer, didn't go on ONE excursion, and were amazed at how much money we spent.

OP, the dollar is not worth as much as it was when you could rent a beach house for the same amount as going abroad. Now a beach house is much cheaper, which is why people do it - but you already knew that....RIGHT??!!

Cruise or Caribbean? There are tons of all inclusive spots.

Get some passports.

I second or third Puerto Rico. It is not outside of the country, but I was surprised how foreign it was. I thought all the signs would be in Spanish and English (they are not). Check out San Juan and Fajardo. Rent a car and drive the countryside. Go to the rain forest.

I though Puerto Rico was more foreign then Quebec City, but that is a nice place too.

I second the idea for Quebec City.
