This happens every fucking day in DC, and no one blinks when a young black male is murdered.
Yet this crap, b/c it occurred in Bethesda, makes national news.

It doesn't happen every day in DC. I agree that there is always a disparity in attention and concern based on a crime victim's race, but this case is much more than that. The sheer brutality of the murder-- struck over 300 times with any and every blunt object (a hammer, a merchandize peg, etc.) that Norwood could get her hands on-- the pleas for mercy overheard by the Apple Store employees-- that's what makes this case different. It's just horrifying, and it doesn't happen every day.
i recall a case earlier this summer where a boyfriend killed his girlfriend in a park and left the 1 year old baby in the car during the sweltering summer heat. this was during the heat wave. have heard nothing since in the news. i think about that poor baby quite often as well as her mother. now that 's equally horrific. yet it received a mere fraction of the coverage. guess what - the victims and criminal were all african american.
I think the Apple store employees need a trial/sentence also.

Man bites dog. The fact that young black men murder each other is so commonplace that it doesn't make the news doesn't make the eruption of violence in more civilized and proper and valued society less newsworthy. Or less tragic.
Work to make it news when black men murder each other. Then, we can talk.
