Why not do both? We just started our four year old in Karate and it has been a great choice. I was hesitant with the delays but it has turned out to do more good than many other things we tried. It depends on the child, program and staff.

I think it depends on the kid. Ours has APD and coordination issues. Hated karate, loved swimming.

I would go with whichever appeals more to your kid. If he was excited by karate, then go with it.
