I mix my regular quaker oats with everything -it is like salad, who needs a recipe, just throw in what you've got and make it different every day. My usual is frozen Blueberries splenda and cinnamon. Another favorite is craisins and brown sugar. I also have thrown in coconut and papaya. experiment!

I make regular old oats w/milk, but cut up frozen strawberries and peaches. Added bonus, it helps cool it down, too.

night before add 1 cup oats and 1 cup warm water, and 1 T yogurt, whey, kefir, lemon juice, OR apple cider vinegar. cover and let sit overnight. in the AM, transfer to a pot, add 1 more cup water, bring to a boil, then simmer 5 minutes. Stir in good butter or coconut oil. Then let your daughter choose her toppings: local raw honey, molasses, pure maple syrup, fresh fruit, frozen fruit, fruit purees, nuts, almond butter, milk, coconut milk, yogurt, kefir, shredded unsweetened coconut, cinnamon, vanilla...

Stir and enjoy!

Brown sugar is sugar.

Cook plain oatmeal with water with sea salt added. Add chopped green onion and little sesame oil to eat for a warm savory oatmeal.

Made this today, and it was a hit as usual:
Chocolate oatmeal:
1 cup cooked, plain oatmeal (I have used everything from steel cut oats to quick oats)
2 tsp. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. cocoa powder.

After cooked, we either add sprinkle of brown sugar and cinnamon - or small frozen blueberries (helps it cool off, which is a must for our 2yo) and some milk.

To start weaning her off the sugary taste, you could use half a packet of the flavored instant oatmeal and half of a plain one.

We use half a cup of instant/quick-cook oats (from the canister) with half a cup of milk and a spoonful of raisins. Sprinkle with cinnamon and put in the microwave for 1 minute. Stir, put back in for a minute if needed. Stir in unsweetened applesauce when it's done.

We've also done the oatmeal with milk and stirred in some mini chocolate chips. It's a big hit and still has far less sugar than flavored oatmeal or most boxed cereals.

If you have a programmable rice cooker, you can program the steel cut oats on the porridge setting to be ready for breakfast

1 cup oats + 3 cups water + 1 tsp cinnamon + dash of sat

I add maple syrup, milk, and nuts to mine.

I have a friend who likes to add a honey, peanut butter, and bananas to her (plain) oatmeal.

I've added a couple of dark chocolate chips to DS's.

If time is an issue, Trader Joe's also has steel cut oats in the frozen section. They come two in a box. You just pop them in the microwave for 3 1/2 minutes and DONE! They already have some flavoring to them, but I add a little cinnamon. Very easy!

Oops forgot to add the all important raisins to the oats while they are cooking!
