Still don't think this is Jay-Z and Beyonce's fault. Blame the hospital. And we're talking in suppositions here. We don't know that the health status of the parents trying to visit their children in the neonatal unit. If a parent was trying to gain access and their infant was in crisis, we don't know if they would've been denied access. That didn't happen, so there's no need to deal in "what if". Infants can be in the NICU for a number of reasons, most of which aren't life-threatening.

Just a few things I noted from the article:

How long was Ms. Nash-Coulon kept out of the NICU? She says she was told she could not enter and then she states that she was told that if she leaves, she would not be able to return. Which is it? Did they let her in or not?

Edgar Ramirez was trying to get in to see his wife and newborn who was in the NICU. Claims to have been kept out for 3 hours. Was the newborn in crisis? Those details are left out. Because if the child was not in NICU for life-threatening reasons, what's the big deal? Go to the cafeteria; eat lunch, grab a coffee.

Looks like two months ago Beyonce and Jay-Z paid for a "sixth-floor area previously used for medical observation before delivery had been cordoned off and was being rebuilt as a private suite, at no cost to the hospital."

Don't blame them if the hospital, in its greed, didn't take care to ensure that their patients were not inconvenienced. They had two months to get that area in order.

Lots of crazies out there. Blame the overzealous paparazzi or folks looking to sell a pic for money for this one. If I had hundreds of millions and I PAID for a private wing in a hospital, you'd better be sure I'm gonna use it.

And at this point it looks like only one person was truly inconvenienced (Edgar Ramirez), so seriously what's the big deal in all of this?

Risk of kidnapping from a hospital is pretty damned minimal. Risk of someone's baby dying without parents in NICU is pretty damned high.

And privacy? You don't get to have it only when you want it and then expect big media attention when you've got something you want to sell.

+1 sister. I'm never understood celebrities who bitch and moan about the invasion of their privacy. No one forces you to become a famous actress or singer.

Lennox Hill is like the Ritz Carlton of hospitals. Their patient population draws from the uber-welathy Upper East side. So I'm not surprised they would cowtow to the likes of Jay-Z and Beyonce. If I needed medical care, I sure as hell wouldn't go there. The academic hospitals like Cornell, Mt. Sinai don't engage in this nonsense.

They were in a PUBLIC HOSPITAL! If they were so worried about themselves and their safety then they should have rented out an out patient private surgery center so they could monopolize the place.

NOT a public hospital.

The hospital and those losers are at fault.

are you kidding me? When a child is in the nicu, those 20 minutes could be that child's last breath - and you don't care that you're denying that kid's parents a right to see their child - for what could be a lifetime for that child? good grief, people.

Totally agree. The first thing I said to my DH about this was, "Oh my god. What if someone's baby died in the NICU during that hour when they were locked out."

I find this very upsetting also. I worked at a hospital once where the hospitalized children of major donors received special treats that the other kids didn't . Money talks. Very sad, IMO.

Really?? You calling Beyonce talent free?? And compare her to the Kardashians? I think she has an amazing voice and is one of the few artists that worked her way up, just like Jay-Z did.
And making fun of her body? She's promoting a healthy, curvy body. That's great!! Great role model for young girls.

You must be really unhappy. Did you also start the threat about calling xtina fat?

It sucks for parents to not be able to get to their children. But I also see where they're comig from. They wanted to protect their daughter and their privacy and with all those crazy people, also prevent kidnapping.
I can see their point, though it could have been handled better.

Does anyone really think she had a completely natural childbirth as is being reported?

I call BS!

I thought she was smarter... Why not fake a "home birth" instead?

An hour in the NICU can be a lifetime . . . or a life for that matter. My DD was a graduate of the NICU and I cannot imagine someone denying me access during those critical moments when things were so touch and go with her life.

I would totally sue the pants off of them and the hospital. Most NICU's have restricted access with badge entry anyway, so it is not like just anyone can walk in.

Tina Fey and Jane Krakowski were on Today this morning talking with Matt Lauer about this. Said that they had the "exact same experience"- clearly in jest. I realize that they aren't stalked by paparazzi, but still funny.

I did not like her or him before and now I am truly disgusted with them and anyone who caters to their ridiculous and disgusting behavior.

My DH said he would have flipped if he was a new dad and trying to see his baby in the NICU and was not allowed. Can you imagine? This is outrageous and unfortunately what American is becoming.
