Yes. Invite a stranger on the inter webs into your home to get your frozen ham bone. What could go wrong? Sounds like the plot of an episode of TrueBlood.

I used to see them at the low budget grocery stores like shoppers. Does that still exist?

Don't know where to get ham bone, but for split pea soup I use smoked turkey drumsticks from Whole foods. Yummy...

I live in NH and there is a "Honey Ham" store in Nashua. The hams are delicious and they sell the ham bone (which still has enough meat on it for a large pot of soup) by the pound. Delicious and affordable.

I've always used a ham hock in my split pea soup and it's yummy. I've been getting them from Whole Foods but lately they never have them, so I got a ham shank instead and it was great. It had more meat to pull off at the end.
