a) it would not exist then. No public transportation system can self-support (roads also do not self-support in the vast majority of cases).
b) this may not help anyway - have you not been to a mall or lunch counter or CVS lately? Or perhaps your stores are the 1% where they are able to somehow employ only friendly and efficient workers? those I visit in both DC and MD are not that way.
Dulles Greenway is private and is doing great. If they privatized metro they could get rid of the entire union staff, pensions etc... and operate efficiently and at a better cost.
I think that's apples and oranges. Metro's income has never been able to cover its operating budget.

Anonymous wrote:The booth people at the Metro are in a special category of "bad" service people. There seems to be a culture of surliness and hostility that runs through the ranks across the city. It really needs to be shaken up. These people are the mini ambassadors of our city and they just abuse citizens right and left. It is like some dystopian urban nightmare having to interact them at all.

Anonymous wrote:I walked into the Ralph Lauren store in Gtown to buy DH a sweater for xmas. A snotty twit asked if I needed help while I unfolded a sweater to determine sizing. I asked if any sweaters were longer and he said no and walked away. I found a shirt and a couple of other items and went to pay. The register clerk asked if the snotty twit helped me and I said no, he actually was no help whatsoever.
Yeah I can never understand that. When I've worked jobs like that, maybe I wasn't crazy about my job but being nice to people helped me enjoy it more. And I also wonder if people who act that way do that because they expect to be treated that way themselves. What an unpleasant world they live in!Anonymous wrote:Ooh people at CVS are mean too
