I disagree. I'm not a huge FN fan, but I don't see her being disrespectful. I think the point of many of the stories is that she makes the wrong choice and then suffers the consequences. Also, sometimes she's not happy with what the adults want her to do, but she does it. Kids have these same feelings and I think books like these help them navigate them.

My DD has been obsessed since 2 but is very into books and has a crazy attention span. Your daughter is probably too young but they aren't too long and are illustrated really well. There is a LOT to look at on each page. I like that Nancy is always dressed kind of crazy

Eh, I'm not a fan. Too much focus on appearances and "ladylike" behavior. Neither DD nor I am that girly, though.

They seem kind of young for that, no? I'm sooooo excited about being a mom to twin girls because I'm pretty girly myself. Love that they will be into American Girl Dolls and other girl things. Can you fill me in on Fancy Nancy? Are there movies or tv shows or just dolls and books? Is 1 too young? Does anyone not like this? I thought the sills were very cool but I don't think I would have thought that as a young girl. Fill me in!

Just because they are girls is no guarantee that they will be into American Girl dolls.

Exactly! Don't set yourself up for disappointment! One may like Lightning McQueen, another might love princesses but hate dolls.

I really like these books. Yes, Nancy is girly, but in a creative and fun way! She makes most of her girly decorations/accessories and you can tell she chooses her own outfits. She loves "big" words, her best friend Bree is a person of color (lending a little diversity to the story), she likes French and uses French vocabulary when she can. And she has to compromise alot for her family...when she gets the big dog Frenchy instead of the papillon (and the parents are smart...she gets to dogsit her neighbors papillon and see for herself that it isn't a good family dog), and ehen she goes to her grandparents anniversary party instead of her friend Bree's birthday party. In another book she buys back a necklace from the neighbor girls to give to her sister; her little sister is into pirates and she had bought her an eyepatch, which the sister also loves.

It's a great series of books for preschoolers. You can buy Fancy Nancy dress ups and other accesories at Target when your kids get to that age!
