No, our dog doesn't sleep with us and won't jump on the bed or furniture unless he's invited, but that only works when we're home. When we're at work, he curls up on the end of our beds and sleeps there for most of the day. I guess I could just shut the bedroom door and he'd just find a place on the floor, but I just put a fleece blanket down where he sleeps and wash it once a week. The sheets get changed/washed once a week and the duvet cover gets washed every other week.

No. It sends the wrong message to the dog. I am alpha in my house. Both of my German Shepherd Dogs have beds on the floor at the end of our bed. They don't sleep in our beds nor do they get on our furniture because they are not in a position to do so. Dogs are pack animals. Allowing your dog to sleep in the bed with you elevates him to equal or greater status. And that can cause behavioral problems.

Sometimes. Our cat sleeps downstairs, away from the dogs. Our small dog, the size of stuffed animal, sleeps with us and the big dog - he sleeps either downstairs, on a chair or on with us. He moves around a lot at night. He gets bathed regularly and brushed daily, so tolerate him on the bed. I do a lot of laundry! As much as I love our dogs and cat, I can't stand having hair everywhere. I clean - A LOT.

This is my response, only the cat doesn't sleep with us or the cat and dog would fight all night. She chills on the bed during the day, though.

wow, people are ridiculously uptight about germs. My cat sleeping on our bed for however long he is there at night is NOT affecting you. Get over it.

Ha! This is so true. Once you have kids, it is sort of a glass house situation in terms of judging pet owners.

Our dog does sometimes, in winter. He sleeps on a fleece blanket at the bottom of the bed, between our feet. (that blanket gets washed whenever I feel like its smelly.) sometimes, if it's really chilly he migrates a bit to snuggle up against our legs, but then it's nice and warm so I don't mind. He's always on top of the covers though. In summer he sleeps on the floor in the bedroom, or downstairs somewhere. Other nights he just stays downstairs in his cozy dog bed. Or he sleeps part of the night in one place, part in another.

Of course. I have PTSD and nightmares---if the dog isnt there I can't sleep and wake up screaming. She is brushed at least weekly, swims a couple times a week in the ocean and is usually on my pillow.

Dog fur beats screaming nightmares anytime.
