If we married tomorow, our marriage announcemnt would tell of our undergraduates degrees from state schools (jmu and odu), and the irony that we both worked at chilis in Fairfax different summers but never met. We married in a hotel ballroom in fair lakes and now live in a townhouse. Our jobs are both just ok but let us get home by 6 and spend time as a family. And we have equity in our house like mad and are close to paying off our student loans so just wait!! Who knows what new day will dawn that will make us exciting to read about!!! We did honeymoon in Europe so there is that but otherwise...not selling any newspapers.

First, I didn't assume that you're loaded. I just assumed that you're not in the same socioeconomic class as the kind of people you mocked in your first post, and it turns out I was right. Secondly, own the shit you post instead of doing weird backtracking. You were obviously mocking the kind of people you talked about in your first post. Your followup post mentioning that you went to James Madison instead of community college and honeymooned in Europe instead of at Disneyworld does nothing to reinforce your claim that you were simply talking about people like yourself.

And if $94 is truly your balance across all accounts at your bank, you should be spending your time working out your finances rather than mocking the working class on message boards.

Okay, that Gawker link was hysterical. All productivity here at the office came to a screeching halt.

I used to work in an office that was VERY slow on the weekends but we were required to be there, one of the best parts was getting the NYT wedding section and doing dramtic interpretations of the announcements. Our favorite was a couple who met in Vegas near the pool when she was wearing " a barely there red bikini that would make the women at the playboy mansion blush, as she lay seductivly on her lounge chair he had to take a shot of jim beam before having the courage to approach her"

It is no longer that prestigious to have your announcement in the NYT. Several years ago--I think right around when a lot of newspapers started folding left and right, the NYT started accepting paid announcements.

I used to read it religiously (as a paper subscriber and online), but they announcements are not as good as they used to be.

If they were in fact your peers, you would have mentioned it in your response instead of stating the balance of your checking account. I don't think most people with large sums of money keep it in their checking account because of the low interest rate that is offered.

I have $94 in my checking account. How do you know I wasn't mocking my peers?

This is a hypothetical question. The answer as always, at least for 90% of DCUMers, yes.

Remember the big "scandal" about a year ago when the NYTimes had a feature story in the wedding section about the couple who married after having an affair. As I recall they met at a school function and were pretty blatant. I think is was discussed ad nauseum on DCUM

Actually, I think this would be fascinating....

They actually put in a lot fewer details than they used to. For one, they would put in engagements. Then in the actual wedding announcements there were details about high schools attended, debutante balls where they came out, details of the dress and attendants names and of course, important/Mayflower ancestors.

My wedding was in there, so were all my siblings and my parents. We're from NY, that's what you do there....
