Instead of the Feast of the Seven Fishes, pick one fish, like tilapia or fried calamari. For the kids, I make "smile fish," which is just baked white fish with a split grape tomato for eyes, carrot sticks for eyebrows and a lemon wedge for a mouth. It's a great way to get them to like fish.

I'd go with a chowder. Whatever you like -- fish, seafood, claim, oyster. With really good bread.
One dish, easy, warm, satisfying. Easy to become a tradition.

I remember brownies always on Xmas eve. For dinner it didn't matter much as long as we had brownies for dessert.
