Not a lot of tchotchkes (spelling?), but some family photos on the piano and mantel. Lots and lots of books. I'm all about comfort - comfy couches you could fall asleep on, sturdy coffee table that you can put your feet on. Warmer neutral paint colors instead of stark white. And about a million toys for my 3-yo.

This is fab, exactly what I want! Thanks for putting it in words!

Casual Elegence is the goal. Cluttered mess and catpee on the sofa is what I got.

Dog hair and cardboard boxes chic.

Eclectic boho ethnic. Heavy leather sofas with ornate mirrors and framed oil paintings, hardwood floors, jewel-tones, African masks and fabrics, Chinese-style multi-drawer chests, and a couple of carpets. Somehow it all came together despite being a mix of discontinued pieces from Hecht's and Storehouse, items collected during post-Peace Corps and other international travel, and the stuff that was inherited from my parents and my recent divorce.

Surprisingly child-friendly.

Cottage-y, but with lots of family pieces, so pretty eclectic. There are some things I won't ever get rid of--my mother's sideboard, etc., decor style be damned.

I used to really love the pottery barn/crate and barrel look, but I've soured on it the past couple of years since it is everywhere.
