When you say, "you might as well give them candy," you make it sound like a bad thing.

OP, please post every food item you have ever given your child (or that your child has gained access to without your knowledge). We'd like to weigh in on your DC's diet.

All this craziness over arsenic in apple juice. I have never given my kids the stuff. I don't give them soda either. Same thing. Nothing worse than parents that let their toddlers suck down sippy cup after sippy cup of apple juice. That is what causes bottle rot.

A routine evening in my house is the kids bonging a couple jugs of apple juice and then bathing in it.

Just picturing this made me laugh out loud at the coffee shop...everyone is staring...

No OP. No one really gives their kids juice. Those who say they do are just yanking your chain. Relax.

I have friends with kids in the same grade as my child who are invariably particular about what their kids eat. I'm particular about what my child eats too. So one friend may be adamant about no apple juice, another about crackers or bread, and of course everyone wants to limit sugar. I understand - I strive for healthy eating for everyone in the family.

My DC comes home and tells me about how all the kids at school - including the kids with the carefully packed lunches - are trading food all the time at lunch. All the time. So "no apple juice" mom might let her kid have a cookie, and "no crackers" mom might let her kid have a juice box, and then there are the moms who let their kids buy lunch and the kids are getting cinnamon rolls only. And they are all swapping and sharing and having a good time.

You can control the food that you feed in your home, and you can model good behavior, and you can create your own healthy habits (we're a no fast food family and the happy result is that my kid has no idea what the golden arches mean...yet). You can't ensure that they never ever have apple juice or whatever your brand of poison is.

No.

But I do let her eat (homemade) apple pie.

I give her jelly sometimes too. DFCS has checked me out for this aberrant behavior before but said their system was too full for them to fully investigate me.

I agree with PP, call CPS immediately - apple juice is a red flag.

The above post reminded me of the thread about "my friend gives her toddler sips of wine, is that terrible" and the avalanche of people saying "no, geez, lighten up, it's no big deal." Shocked the hell out of me to be honest. But this idiot comes on here complaining of APPLE JUICE. Cracks me up.

My daughter gets a tiny amount of white grape juice mixed with a lot of water. I could not care less what some DCUM trolls think about it!
