The British Tabloid Daily Mail has a friend of theirs saying they didn't win themselves, and are presenting themselves as the winners to protect the privacy of a client. Someting along those lines. Interesting.

PP again -- I'm not contemptuous of poor people who win the lottery. I think the whole idea of the lottery is wrong.

These people don't just "go back" to being poor. Their lives often are devastated permanently.

The poor who become suddenly rich go bankrupt because they buy everything on credit. Houses for all their family members, cars for all their friends. They end up owing more than their winnings (also often because they fail to account for taxes).

So... generosity = bad, hoarding cash you didn't need in the first place = good?

I bet those poor folks of whom you're so contemptuous have SO MUCH FUN before the cash runs out. Then they declare bankruptcy and are back where they started, just with awesome stories to tell. AND, their irresponsible spending stimulates the economy! Sounds like a win-win to me.
