I used to love Popeye's, but a few years ago it started making me feel completely awful every time I ate it. Finally realized that they fry shrimp & crayfish in the fryers (I'm allergic) and it was making me sick. So sad.

I am very allergic (anaphylactic) and don't have this issue with my location. where do you go? I have been paranoid about that but it has not been a problem for me at the one I go to. I was at a crappy food court recently (the one near torpedo factory) and we got some fries and I could just smell shrimp on them! So gross!

OP here. Thanks everyone! I'm going to try the hitching post based on crazy good yelp reviews. I'm also going to try Bon chon--sweet and savory with crunch sounds awesome. I'm not too far from Wheaton so I might give pollo campero a shot too. Hopefully something will satisfy my craving!!

Keep em coming! And I do love Popeyes.

Another vote for Popeyes. Also there's a fairly dangerous carryout just over the line near Suitland .... if my friend texts me back, I'll post. THAT place has the most remarkable fried chicken I've ever had. However, I am somewhat scared to park there and wait around while they package it up.

And,
Lemon, and lettuce, in a lobster roll? FAIL

I spend a month every summer in Maine. 50% of the lobster rolls are served with lettuce. Do you know something native Mainers do not?

Anonymous wrote:Popeyes. Seriously. Let's not pretend that fried chicken is some upscale culinary invention. Besides Popeyes is where Tom Sietsma goes for a real meal when the restaurant he reviews serves inedible food.

Popeyes is the real deal.

Also, PPs, the OP didn't ask "Is there a place near you that sells fried chicken?" They asked where the *best* fried chicken in the area.

Pollo Campero. Hands down the best fried chicken, and their beans are great too.
My family has always eaten Popeyes and loved it, but for something different (and way better) we get Pollo Campero
I know there is one in Wheaton, I think 14 th st has one too. It's worth the drive!
