OP here -- not sure if you are assuming that I'm wanting to give up and letting my kid not learn math? That is not the case. I agree that child must learn math. I just was hoping that others had gone through the tunnel of math hell and could tell me that it turned out great after the pain.

I agree wholeheartedly, the kids don't run the asylum -- parents do. That's our prerogative. The kids will have the same prerogative when and if they become parents themselves. Come to think of kids don't even have a vote in our elections.
They will read, write, shower daily and do math whether they like it or not. Amazingly, they have all learned to like reading, writing showering daily and are top math students.

THis was true for me - hated math until high school - then liked it OK until college, then liked it again until I got in the classes with all pure math majors and was in over my head.

13:59 --- FUNNY! OP here. I hated physics, so I don't know how you did that!
FWIW, I have been looking at Khan Academy videos and in the process, I learned something that would have helped me when I was in 3rd grade trying to learn those stupid multip. tables.... did you all know that the 9's are a lot easier when you find out that the digits in the answer ALWAYS adds up to 9? (like 9x3 = 27, and 2+7 (from the answer "27" =9, same with 36, 45, 54, etc.) Wish I had learned some of these tricks when I was young.
Does anyone know other tricks (besides the 10's and 11's)? Any tricks for the 6's, 7's or 8's?
