This year was a glorious year....visiting step son the chef. So I did almost nothing and the two of them had fun together in the kitchen and taught the two little ones a thing or two about smoking a turkey and making corn bread stuffing. I prepped a few green beans and brussels sprouts and made my famous cranberry sauce. Admired all their masterpieces and took pics to share on Facebook with family and friends who could not be with us. So worth the trip to Alabama. And if we had been home....about a 50/50 split with him doing the lion's share of the cooking and me doing the prep with the kids as sous chefs.

He pays for it.
He carves the turkey.
He does all the clean up/dishes.

He does most of the shopping, most of the planning, and all of the cooking except dessert. I set the table and do all the cleanup and make a dessert (apple crisp this year).

This year it's just us, but normally if we have guests coming I do all the housecleaning as well, though he helps with the tidying up part of it.

When we go to his parents, he usually ends up doing some of the cooking there as well.

He sets the table. Washes big pots and wine glasses by hand. Plays with the kids (which sometimes I appreciate because I want to cook, and sometimes I'm jealous of, because I'm tired of cooking). Marvels at how much stuff I've prepped in a short time span. Makes fun of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade that I must watch while cooking. That's pretty much it.

Bought wine, and will do anything I tell him to tomorrow. plus the lion's share of the cleaning (already have dishwasher load 2 going)

He helped pluck the turkey (ah, kosher birds) and two other small prep tasks. I took today off and shopped/played with the baby until his parents got here and then commenced my prep.

Tomorrow, he'll buy the bagels, make any other last minute trips to the store, be on baby duty until his parents arrive, and then as my backup until it is time to carve.

I love cooking, so this is egalalitaian for us.

I do about 85%, but it works out OK. Not usually stressful, often enjoyable.

I plan the menu and shop. (I have Wednesday off)
He buys the wine and drinks.
He cleans the house and sets up the extra tables.
I direct placement of table settings, linens, etc.
He cleans the wine glasses and sets up the bar.
He chops the vegetables and grates the cheese.
(Actually the kids do that now that they are old enough).
I do the cooking while he takes the kids.
I do the cooking and socliaizing with the other chef family members while he does the socializing with the non chef family members.
I do initial cleanup because he is sleeping.
He finishes clean up Friday morning and then goes to work (I have the day off)

He plans, shops for and cooks the meal. I make appetizers and desserts and do the table. We clean up before and after together. This is how it is every day in our house. I love my MIL for a reason...

My husband's job is to Keep The Kids Out of Mom's Hair and Stay The Hell Out of My Kitchen. He also helps with the clean up and will go get anything I've forgotten from the store for me.

After I found out that he's been holding out on me all these years, this year he's making the Mac and Cheese.
