Wrong. Only some students in ward 3 can go to the only MS in ward 3.
and the rest of ward three students can go to the school that is in-bounds for them, Hardy-, which is in ward 2 - because it's closer than the ward 3 school (Deal).
To repeat - school bounds are not assigned by ward; they are assigned by proximity to your home, which is sometimes a school in your ward and sometimes is not.
So - middle school students who live in the various neigborhoods of ward 3 have 2 in-bounds schools - Deal and Hardy.

Then why was parents griping about not having a stand-alone MS in ward 5 considered a legitimate gripe? They can just go to another ward? What is the problem?
Imagine if the Hardy community one day woke up and Hardy was closed....there'd be angst, right?

I notice the interview requirement is no longer detailed on the Hardy website. Admission is now described as inboundary, show up with your paperwork, OOB enter the lottery.
That's what you all want, right?
Isn't this the beginning and end of the discussion? There's an existing middle school that is not fully enrolled with in-bounds middle school students. Why on earth should DCPS build another middle school in that same in-bounds area?
I also agree with a PP that the juxtaposition of ward boundaries with school noundaries is silly. Schools don't follow wards, and they shouldn't.

Hardy is there, open and waiting for you. Make it work and stop your first world complaints. They are tiresome.
Ward 5 is not in the first world? Harsh!

I live in Ward 4 and understand the parents of Ward 2/3, even though Hardy is an "in boundary school" it's also a specialized school where there is an application process where a regular feeder school doesn't have this. It's like saying all in boundary students for Bannaker should apply and go there and it's not possible because you have to get accepted.....same with Hardy and any other specialized school.
