These weird lists do not sound like they come from a source familiar with the local schools.

Starting in 2013, Washington kids will also have the option of putting their names into a lottery to attend the DC Hebrew Language Charter School, a secular public charter school that’s not Jewish in nature but is entirely Hebrew-immersive.

Not really, PP, because BASIS DC has not "started" yet.

I want solid, successful schools here as much as the same person, but it is really important to be honest with parents looking for good alternatives. BASIS DC is not open yet and therefore cannot be on a list of best DC schools. Really very simple.

If BASIS supporters think that the way to build excitement is by patronizing parents in such an obviously insulting way, they are going to be unpleasantly surprised by the local reaction.

So, BASIS, try this. Open first. Live up to your promises, and you will gather loyalty, enthusiasm, and a place on everyone's list of the best in DC.

That would be BASIS Tucson. Which cannot be one of the best charter schools in DC because, wait for it, it's in TUCSON.

But it is a damn good start.
