I agree that cats are somewhat less dirty, but ultimately, this is why I'm not a pet owner at all.

They don't walk in the spots that are soiled. And if you clean up the shit and scoop up the clumped pee, you're good to go. My cat becomes mad if his box isn't immaculate. That's more than I could say about my dog who did indeed like to munch on his shit. Furthermore, when you walk a dog outside, what do you think it's stepping into and and bringing into your home? rose petal perfume?

Apparently they do it to mark/take ownership of their territory and disguise their scent (those are two of the theories anyway).

Simple solution is to be sure to pick up poop and walk on a leash. Correct them if you see them going towards a poop pile.

Owning a dog is like having a child. There's some odd behaviors and grossness to deal with.
