I'm a little confused by some of the responses.

Ok, a Brazilian, clearly not appropriate for a 14-yr old.

But are some of you saying you would absolutely not allow her to get just a regular bikini wax? I would never want my daughter to have to worry about hair showing when she wears a swimsuit. I remember being so self-conscious about that as a teen, and being fair-skinned with coarse, dark hair, shaving really wasn't a great option for me but I would have been mortified to ask my mom about waxing. My DD is only 11, but if she were to ask me in a few years if she could get a bikini wax so she could feel comfortable in a swimsuit, I am pretty certain I would take her to have it done.

I don't think it's a question of being an adult, like adults are allowed to wax their bikini line but teens should have to shave. Whatever method gives the best results is what I would chose for my daughter, provided I think the hair removal is appropriate in the first place (ie, not a full Brazilian!).

Second this.

Tell her to trim or shave. My kids are much younger, but I would never pay for my teenage daughter to get waxed, I have a hard enough time rationalizing that for myself. Also does she want it just at the bikini line? I definitely shaved my bikini line as a teen, would have been very self-conscious with hair protruding. If she really wants to wax, I would make the appt for her and have her save up $. And I would not allow her to get a Brazilian.

OP -- What's her reason? Does she regularly swim or do gymnastics or something of that kind? If so, maybe she feels the hair is starting to show and is getting self-conscious about it. That happened to me around that age and caused a lot of angst; I wish I knew about waxing then.

PP here. I once asked the tech at the salon the youngest she'd ever waxed a teen and she said 12- mom was present of course.

Unfortunately, this is actually more common than not. I'm a pediatrician and I'm seeing more and more shaving and waxing in the past 2-3 years (and it's not just the girls!). I have to ask- "where does the hair normally go to" when trying to assess pubertal development.

Mostly it's the bikini line but I do see an occasional teen with a full Brazilian (ouch is all I can say !!).

Also, is it even legal to wax a minor? I realize the tech would be a woman, but, gee, we'd throw most people in prison if they touched our girls in this manner.

What on earth???? You seem to have a screw loose. Kids get that idea from other kids, including girls of that age. I don't approve, but you're way off base (and out of touch) to think that the daughter is learning it from porn or bad boys.

What?! No!!! I have a 14 year old and would not allow it for years. Thank goodness she is not at all interested in doing it and yes, we have discussed the fact that women do it.
