OP, how about trying the National Career Development Assoc? Their website has a search function where you can find certified career counselors by state.

Good luck!

If he likes working with kids, I would suggest getting a job with an outward bound program (at risk youth are taken camping and taught outdoor skills). I have a friend who decided to be a gym teacher and he coached sports.

If I could do it all over again, I would have learned a trade instead of going to law school. I think people will pay top dollar to work with a plumber, electrician, carpenter who is intelligent, responsive and does good work.

I met this woman, Amy Gleklen, a few months ago and she seems really great. She works with people to figure out what's next. Maybe just having your son meet with her will give him some motivation and optimism about his path.

there are lower paying jobs (possibly volunteer) at race events. It is a decent way to network into something more interesting. Which sport is his passion? For sports management there is everything from helping work the US Open - to a marathon - to something like the race for a cure .

THere are also some great non-profits that might have volunteer opportunities. If he reads a local sports magazine, they are always profiling someone who recently created a non-profit for disadvantaged youth. Have him give them a call and see how he can help.
