Mederma. Expensive, but awesome.

Sunscreen too. Even though on days like today where it's unlikely, still apply the sunscreen over the scar.

Minimal- DS had two sets of stitches on his face and one tape. (yup- play set fall, fall into the coffee table- not our residence so no child proofing on table, and run into corner of the wall).

Two small scars from stitches. The most noticeable scar is from the tape and it was the smallest injury.

All of the scars are small (noticeable if you know they are there), and less and less noticeable as he ages.

PP here. Also, if you're worried, there are dermatologists at Children's National. They are very nice, and at least you'll feel you did everything you could.

Give it some time before you worry. Last year, my 2 year old cut her head and they glued it. I was so upset, I thought it looked horrible and gaping when the glue came off. I wished they had used stitches. We are vigilant about sunscreen, and I have tried Maderma. Six months later and you can't really see it at all anymore. I mean it's there, but not noticeable and not red anymore. Also, the dermatologists will tell you there's nothing more to be done right now. Lasers can help later.

Yes of course. The plastic surgeon told us if you cut, there will be a scar.

Glue might not scar as much as stitches.
But if they didn't call a plastic surgeon there's no way of knowing. You could still consult one I'm sure.

DD scratched her face as a few weeks old infant. it didn't look that bad but the scar is there at 5.

DS had an injury when he was 2 that required 2 stitches to mend a cut in his cheek, plus 7 stitches in his lip (2 layers of stitches in the lip, it was really deep).

He's 6 now. The cheek scar is completely gone, but I can still see a faint scar on his lip. It's not noticeable to most people, but I know it's there.

We did use sunscreen on him religiously, but it's tough to keep a layer of sunscreen on a toddler's lip. He also hated hats and would rip them off as soon as I turned around (there's no reasoning with a 2yo...). I expect that, along with the depth of the cut, is why we can still see the lip scar but not the cheek scar.

Yes, it left a scar and I even had a top plastic surgeon come in and sew it up. It is in his eyebrow so not too noticeable but definitely visible.

Sorry, OP.

Yes. Very minimal scar.

Glad that you asked, OP! DS, at 17 months hit the corner of a nightstand and in the middle of his forehead and had 4 stitches making him like harry potter. We were so worried about scarring too, but it was barely noticeable 5-6 months later, and now 14 months later (now 2.5 y/o) I can't even notice if I look for it. You child will be fine and don't worry!

Be as religious as you can about keeping a hat on his head so the scar doesn't get sunburned this summer. New skin gets burned more easily, which will make the save more noticeable.

I can't say enough good things about Dermalmd Scar Serum! My seven year old daughter had 9 stitches above her eye. We apply this serum every night and I swear it looks better every morning. I am so impressed with how well this works. I am forever grateful to you for reducing the scar on my daughter's face.
