I'm in the same boat. Wake up in a cold sweat almost every morning. I repeat over and over in my head "I don't live in a tent city. I don't live in a tent city...." Sadly that doesn't help and neither do these threads. I don't know why I open them. I guess it's because I always hope there are more people like the two of us. Misery loves company.
don't feel bad. there are many, many like you. Paying the bills really is the most important thing right now. Roof over heads, food and clothing - if you can do more than that, count yourself among the lucky.
I bet someone could do a quick search and find the stats on how many people are just scraping by vs. those able to save anything at all (regular savings, retirement, etc). My feeling is that at least half the country is in the "just paying bills" category.
