Subject: Re:what do you wish your kid had known before kindergarten
To the person who wished their child had learned to count to 10 and recognize those numbers before starting. Seriously? Were they not exposed to math at all before starting kindergarten? My not yet 3 year old can do this easily and so could probably most 3 year olds 30 or 60 year's ago and we don't do anything special at this age except put our DS in a daycare where he gets a very little expose to math, but not in a structured or very academic way. The age range has changed and 4 year olds are no longer attending kindergarten. By 4, most children know how to count to 10 and recognize those numbers. Why can't they get this work out of the kindergarten curriculum and make sure parents know that this is preschool age work? All the children in our school other than a couple with multiple special needs count into the hundreds already, but the curriculum still says this month they are working on numbers 1-10. Do they have to all be able to count into the 100's? No. Should they be able to count to 10? Yes.

Oh, no. Does this mean he had reason to need it? Worrisome. But maybe I'm misinterpreting.
