I agree. What we all should be doing now is lobbying DCPS to ensure that the up and coming Melissa Kim's have the right support systems in place so they too will enjoy great tenures as their respective schools.

Deal parent here. I 100% agree with pp. This is sad news but it actually makes some sense. How long should a prinicipal stay? 7 years of real solid accomplishments is a good run. I didn't know until the orientation that she had a young child so it actually makes sense to me.

Kim was not appointed by Rhee but Janey appointed her. So her leaving was almost about right in the time-line scheme of things. To miss her is normal, wanting her to stay would be selfish.

Jordan, Pullens, and now Kim.

And doesn't she have a baby at home? I can see why she might want a job with more flexibility!

Hopefully, the standards and policies she established will enable a smooth transition and continued effectiveness.

20:35 you must have been living under a rock. NO ONE was going to Deal before she got there. Only 50% of Lafayette, Janey, and Murch were going to Deal. She has been essential to this community. I am sad that she won't be there for my child.

Since when did Deal need to be turned around?

Let's say Deal thrived under her. But Deal has been a good school for a long time and did not need to be turned around.

Perhaps she was simply lured away by bigger bucks.
