I had neighbors keeping chickens (in MoCo) who were flagrantly violating the 100-foot rule. They got turned in because 1) the smell was intolerable to their neighbor, and 2) they had multiple roosters who crowed all f*cking morning, so I reported them, too.

Now, if they'd kept the coop clean, kept hens only, and offered us eggs every now and then, I don't think anyone would have minded...

I live in Mont. Co and want to keep that 100 foot thing. This is the suburbs, not the country. If you want chickens, get a 2 acre property further out than my neighborhood. I already had to call the county twice on our neighbors who were keeping chickens on less than 1/5 acre. There is not a single place on any of our properties which is 100 feet from a structure. I got tired of the chickens coming into my yard followed by the children who would run after them and stomp thru my strawberry patch.

Fairfax County, VA. Chickens over 2 months are classified as "domestic fowl" and are allowed on any lot of 2 or more acres. Chickens are allowed only on lots of two acres or more, and hen houses cannot be closer than 100 feet from a neighboring property line.

OP here. Thanks for the suggestions! That 100-ft restriction makes things tricky, but my impression of Takoma Park is that might be a good place to try it.
