I got mine before my first period, around 5 months out, while nursing. I loved it. No nursing problems and my periods were very light when they came. I'm afraid you can't know how you'll react to it until you try.

I loved both Mirena and Paraguard and had the same experience with both.

I got mine put in 3 months pp (about a week ago) and so far like it. I've had quite a bit of cramping. Especially during bf though. I'm hoping that will subside soon.

Same here. I had it put in at 12 weeks pp, before my period return. I had some spotting/bleeding for the first week or so, and then nothing. And no change in my milk supply. So far, so good.

With my first DD I tried the Mirena, and it did affect my milk supply. I had to start supplementing and by the time I figured out what was happening and had the Mirena removed I was never able to get back to producing enough to EBF my DD. I already had a low supply to begin with and was just producing enough to feed my DD. With my second DD I had a talk with my OB, and she confirmed that any hormonal birth control method will affect milk supply a little. Since I had a low supply it was noticeable, but for people with a good supply there shouldn't be any issues.

My sister also had the Mirena, and she suffered from horrible acne and mood swings. I had some mood swings but even worse a complete lack of sex drive. Things returned back to normal for both of us when the Mirena was removed. I personally wouldn't try the Mirena again.

I got the Mirena about 8 weeks post-partum. Had cramping on & off for a week and spotting for about a month. Both were super annoying and I almost got it taken out, but decided to stick with it a bit longer. Six weeks later, the side effects are pretty much gone, though I swear sometimes *I* feel the strings (which are actually more like wires). I don't thin I've had any supply issues. Still no period. But reports of people getting pregnant is alarming! I think I'm going to push my husband to get a vasectomy, as we're definitely done.

I got mine 4 months PP. The insertion hurt for me, but then again, I am a wimp! I had spotting most days for the first month, but then after that everything was fine. I had no drop in supply and I BF and pumped for 1 year. After I stopped, my period came back and was light for the next 6 months and then disappered all together. I'm coming up on my 5 year mark and have not had any side effects or other issues. I'm very glad I got it!

I had a Mirena inserted when I was 6 weeks pp and had no problems with milk supply or anything. In fact, I was pumping over 50 oz a day. I got my period back when I stopped nursing around 8 months pp. I have had the Mirena now for almost two years and have no complaints at all. I wanted something with low hormones and low maintenance and it's worked for me.

I thought about getting the mirena, but when I googled it, there were quite a few stories about it affecting milk supply. I didn't want any impact on my supply because I was pumping at work and not really keeping up already. So anyway, I did not get one, and I am still on the fence.

I had the Mirena inserted 8 weeks post partum, and had it removed a year later and switched for the paragard. I thought I was being negatively affected by the hormones in the Mirena.

My first six periods with the Paragard were very heavy and there was a lot of uncomfortable, 14-year-old girl cramping. Now that I've had the Paragard for over a year, my periods are back to where they were with the Mirena and no more painful cramps.

In the office where I work, one woman got pregnant with a Mirena, and another woman's daughter did too. Both women carried pregnancies to term and had healthy babies, but it does seem like a lot of women get pregnant with these IUDs.

8 weeks post-partum. No effect on nursing. Love it!

I got mine at 6 mos pp after #2. No spotting or anything for 3-4 months then started slight spotting randomly for 3-4 months (I started 1st period after 10 months after #1 so similar timing). No breastmilk issues.

After the initial annoyance of random spotting (wore a panty liner everyday), am back on a relatively normal pattern of 4-5 days a month of very very light periods. I love it.

5 months PP and just got my Mirena inserted. No drop in my supply. I did start bleeding about a week after insertion and it hasn't stopped (though it is getting lighter). I won't lie -- getting it inserted hurt but only for a minute or so. The first couple of days of bleeding I did have cramping. I'm going to give it a few months, but if the bleeding doesn't stop or settle into some sort of pattern I'm thinking of having it removed.

I got mine 8 months pp and still breastfeeding. Total coincidence, I got my first pp period the day after I had made the appointment for insertion. My appointment was quickly bumped up as it's easier to insert during a period. I didn't have any issues with low milk supply as a result. I did, however, have non-stop bleeding for two months and then unpredictable spotting for another month or so. Very annoying to bleed almost nonstop for three months and my DH was completely annoyed. I don't blame him. By eleven months pp I finally settled into a regular pattern and now at 14 months pp I get my period predictably. Yes, I still get one and so far it is not shorter or much lighter. I am an endometriosis sufferer and the Mirena has helped tremendously there. That alone makes it worth it. My OB had encouraged the Mirena because the research is apparently quite good on its ability to keep the endometriosis at bay. So far so good.
