For heels try Cole Haan's Nike Air line or maybe Stuart Weitzman depending upon the shape of your foot (SW fits me well, but I have high arches and high insteps). Please, please don't buy Merrill or the like.

I guess I gave up when I was about 20, then. I actually wear Danskos, Birkenstocks, and Keens, but my feet are so happy.

Me too! It was after I saw a special on TV on women who wear high heels all the time and how gross looking their feet had become.

My Mother In Law and Sister In Law have HORRIBLE feet from always wearing heels. My MIL has a huge bunion next to her big toe and her big toe is totally starting to turn inwards towards her other toes. I think she said it started getting bad in her late 40's.

Danskos and my lovely Attilio Giusti Leombrunis!

heels: Cole Haan and Rockport (don't laugh, they get a lot of compliments, they are NOT my dad's Rockports)

flats: Ecco, Cole Haan

casual, doing a LOT of walking: Keen , Merrell

FWIW: I have a narrow, low-volume foot with high arches that are very hard to fit. I put insoles in most of my shoes, which improves the fit, including where it would cut into my Achilles.

Stuart Weitzman is great for me. Like the PP, I also have high arches.

For me, Clarks. It depends on your foot, though because Sofft are great for many people but are like some kind of horrible torture device on me.

Come back when you are in your 50's, and we'll talk.
