Love the new Jcrew. I am so glad the updated their look from that boring preppy look. That being said, I do agree that the quality had gone down. My sweaters have holes in them after two years.

Yes! So cute in catalogue, but most if their stuff is cut too boxy and narrow in bust. Designed for a "Twiggy" type of frame....
I have been lucky with a few things. But it's hit or miss....

I got my suit this year at Nordies. Great one-piece that did an excellent job hiding the baby weight yet still managed to make me look sexy. Did not think it was possible.

For t shirts, I moved on to Nordstrom too. Their Caslon shirts are nice and long, and are also normal weight, not the thin gimmicky fabric of JCrew.

Anyone have a suggestion for a good KCrew alternative to swimwear?

Believe it or not, try Talbots. I used to avoid the place like the plague, for its Barbara Bush styles, but it must have gotten a new designer or something, because they have some quite nice pieces now that don't look like your mom would wear them and the quality is good.

For nice cashmere, try the outlet stores for Saks, Nordstrom, and Barney's. Also, I've found the store brands at Macy's and Bloomingdale's to be decent.

Totally in agreement about the quality. They are definitely trying to cut production costs. I still buy my suits there, those still seem to be good quality and they happen to fit me perfectly. This summer's bathing suit collection was weak I thought and I would totally accept a recommendation for a new source of t-shirts. I like to wear them under suits or with a snappy necklace. And I like that the J Crew ones are long enough.

Really? I find the sizes have gotten larger. I was cleaning out my closet at the end of the summer and I found a pair of jcrew shorts that were size 8, and they were too tight. My new jcrew pants are size 2.


I agree. 5-10 years ago I was a size 8 at J Crew and those items are too small now. Now I buy a 6 and if anything, those items are too large.

It's not the printed size number on the tag, 8 vs. 2 vs. 10. I agree with you about vanity sizing.

I guess it's more that all the sizes have what I think of as "Juniors" proportions that no longer work for me. Starting with super slim hips, narrow shoulder allowances, waaaay low cut pants. Things like that that will never work if you've had a C-section or boobs that are larger than a B+ cup.

Can't speak about her personal life, but I think Jenna Lyons did a great job revamping the J. Crew brand. Though my taste is much more eclectic than preppy.

And also, I saw a morning show piece on her in which they went on and on about how she is such a superior mother because she takes time out from work for her kid. Um, yes, hello? It's because she's the boss, so yes, she can shape her own schedule. Doesn't make her a better mom than the lady sewing the sequins onto the flimsy shirts.
