Gray hair doesn't make me feel old--I color mine and anyway, had my first in my 20s. I'm very pleased with how my skin has held up, much better than my mother's did. Daily sunscreen on hands, face, neck and decol. area was the key, I think. Hands really give people away. Some of my friends who looked "tan and healthy" in our 20s and 30s really started to have serious skin aging shockingly early. We're in our 40s now. I think I feel a little older than I look -- less resilient to sleep deprivation, some aches here and there. But overall hopefully holding up ok.

I know, it sounds mean - I wasn't trying to be. It was just really surprising to me. I'm at least 10 years younger than any of the other parents. I do realize people have kids older in the DC area, but I know I've met plenty of people around my age in classes and out and about with my daughter. We just recently moved, and I just felt like I was playing a game of "one of these things is not like the others."

I have olive skin, dark hair (and just got my first grey hair this year..which I pluck out). I also have been a runner, gym-rat my whole life and neurotic about slathering sunscreen on my face since my mid-20s.
My parents are 70 and people think they are in their mid-50s. A lot of it is also genetic...but they are also very athletic, healthy people too. They still go to the gym daily.

The secret is lots of sunscreen and lots of water. Never leave out the house without sunscreen on or a water bottle in your hand.

I started getting grey hair at 25, but it definitely got worse after my kid arrived at 28. I can cover greys, though. Otherwise, I am most definitely the youngest mom in my kid's kindergarten class. I am 34 now, but I think I can still pass for mid-20s. I definitely don't look as fresh faced as I used to, but I am better off than some of the women I see on TV on those ambush makeovers who look ridiculously old in their mid-30s. No one mistakes me for the nanny anymore, though - maybe I AM looking at least old enough to BE a mom?
I really did feel strange at back to school night, though, with all the grey haired mommies and bald headed daddies in kindergarten. My kid's daycare wasn't even that bad.

I don't really feel like I look older. I have oily skin so at 43 I don't really have wrinkles and I work out a lot so the skin on my legs and arms hasn't really started to sag. I've got gray hair, which I get professionally done every 6 weeks.
What I have noticed is that I look horrific in pictures these days and its not "Wow, I look old" or "Wow, I look fat" its just "Wow, I look way uglier than I used to." I've always looked way better in person than in pictures (never been particularly photogenic) but now I can't take a good picture to save my life. My wedding pictures 9 years ago were good and I was 10 lbs heavier then. I can't explain it. It's not just me, even my mother and husband tell me that I look way better in person than in pictures.

I'm 39 and I'm definitely starting to age. People have always thought I was younger than my age, but I'm not sure that will be the case much longer. Having a baby at 36 had something to do with it, drinking/occasional smoking probably does too, and running w/o sunscreen has caused some sun damage to my chest. My knees and elbows definitely look older, and facial wrinkles are becoming more apparent. I still don't really have any gray hair, though. (I occasionally find one, but I haven't had to start dyeing.)
