That would be cool but maybe hard to get good English teachers who could afford to teach 1 or 2 days/week. On the other hand it could be a good situation for parents of younger kids. Ultimately, though, I think 13:24 is right and it would be hard for kids to keep up in English under either of those scenarios. One thing worth mentioning is that many of the after care classes are in Chinese so it's possible to have your kids working in Chinese for ~2 extra hours every afternoon.

If you were strategic about it, I bet you could increase the amount of Chinese instruction in early grades (prek-full immersion) (K-4 day a week immersion) 1 (3 day a week), etc. Just throwing out ideas.

Given the English standardized test scores it seems unlikely that more Chinese is going to be offered anytime soon.

To be more clear: I am 11:38 and I am not the principal, or the ED, or any of the other admin folks/founder folks who are 4th year parents. I am a regular parent.

I wonder if there is a way to increase amount of Chinese within the school week itself-say moving from every other day model of Chinese, English, Chinese, English to a
3 day a week Chinese model-say Monday, Wed, Thursday? It would increase hours in week devoted to just Chinese by a couple hours/week.

It was exciting last night to listen to the full immersion model in practice, and I wonder if there are actual rules that denote the amount of time that can be spent in a foreign language, or does a school have latitude to figure out how much time HAS to be in English.

Either way, 1 month in I really like full immersion.

Don't forget the principal herself is a 4th year parent.

I would love 2 full years of immersion too. Wish K could be only Chinese as well but that "ain't gonna happen" in a public school. Oh well...

No pre3 is not surprising. Wonder when they're going to finish construction. Parking has been a nightmare.

I am really bummed about the decision not to do Pre-3. I loved learning about the full immersion model last night at BTSN, and would have loved for kids to have 2 full years of immersion before hitting K. I imagine though the school has a full plate but would have loved to have Pre3 at Yu Ying. Wonder if it is still on the table for the future?
