Post 09/25/2011 15:06     Subject: Is my neighbor as crazy as I think he is?

Here's the thing: I know people who do this to others *because* they know it annoys them. There are four corners (an intersection, obviously) not far from my house. There are certain neighbors that *insist* on bothering one neighbor because they happen know he doesn't like it. It's especially obvious. The other neighbors are untouched. So he has quite a case against them if he wanted to push. They are too stupid too realize.

I don't think I would go there if I were them, but that is just me. (I don't have the funds to spend on a long drawn out case, he does. He bought a modest house so as to not blow his millions on one thing, real estate, though I know he owns more than one really nice house.) It will be interesting (messy!) when he decides to go forward, because he only hires the best. He happens to be nice to me, but I have seen him get into it with others, and it is not the side you want to be on. I am sure if the problem neighbors knew this (and other things about him) ahead of time, they would not have ever started trouble with him. Like I said, they are just not that bright.

OP, you never know who you are dealing with or how they will take something. If you know he doesn't like it, why act pathetic?

Is there a reason OP's guests can't park in front of OP's house, or some other neighbor's house?

FTR, I must admit that I get a tad annoyed when my neighbors park in front of my house... I do kinda feel like that's MY spot! I would never say anything, but...

But then that would annoy other neighbors! Did you all miss the fact that he has one car. Its not like OP is taking his spot so that he can't park.

The OP said herself that parking is plentiful.

OP here. Yes he is German. And just to clarify we only have our visitors park next to our house when the space in front of our house is in use. It certainly isn't every day. Thanks for all the responses. It's interesting to see the difference in views.

Is he German? When we lived in Germany, people perceived the spot in front of their house to be their spot -- and it sounds like some Americans on this thread perceive the same. It could be cultural.

To me you are rude to constantly park in front of his house/his space. For an emergency, I get it but daily or very often, no, its annoying. Our neighbors do it too and have plenty of room in front of their house and it pisses me off. Several often compete when one lives around the corner and has a 2 car driveway and parking in front of their house. I can't get near my walkway sometimes. It sucks. When we tried to block them with our cars to take our spot back, they just proceeded to block our driveway.

It is their implied spot. If you want to be pushy about it, let's face it, it's no longer about the spot now, is it? Anyone knows this. I've seen people obsess about this - talk about crazy!!

Is he a renter? It's possible that his landlord fed him some story that the parking in front of the house is his, and he doesn't know any better.

It is a public street but I have always done my best to never park in front of someone's house because I do think this is their spot. If you are having guests over why don't you tell him and ask if he will mind if someone parks in one of these spots for a few hours. Just because he is anal retentive doesn't mean you have to respond in kind.
