Wow I did not realize Tulane was Harvard on Bourbon Street. Drink a huricane and relax-- I am sure you learned how to do that at Tulane? I am also sure they were talking math and verbal for the sat not the essay too. In fact I think if you read a couple of posts back they said that the DC had not taken a prep cours yet and that was their 10th grade sat and that they were thinking 1200-1300 after prep. I would recommend if the child has any interest in the military to consider VMI. Great school that turns out real leaders. You do not have to serve in the military if you do not want to after you graduate.

To the person that suggested Tulane, are you on crack? 1100 SAT is that for just 2 sections or 3? I would also like to point out that C of C and Tulane are not the same type of student. You could be mildly retarded and go to C of C. I went to Tulane and a large portion of my freshman class was either in the top 10 of their class or at least top 10%

OP, it's good to get a general sense of expectations, but, from my recent experience: hopefully you will see 100 to 200 point increase on the SAT after prep. As for the grades, don't discount the benefit of an upward trend in grades and good grades in future AP classes. The weight of the AP classes can really help some. (Except my DC maintained almost the exact GPA for 8 semesters and only went up on SATs 80 points -- but did a little better on the ACTs). Finding the right fit college is hard work but pays off in the end. Good luck.

So you'd move to a smaller and/or poorer school district so that your kid could shine and get into a better college? I think I'd stick with the great education that Langley provides and go to the best fit college that accepts your kid-- it just probably won't be a top 25 or maybe top 50 school. But that's OK!!
