I just stayed at Rose River Farm-- (recommended by several people on this thread) with DH for a quick one night romantic get away and really loved this place. Very private and just beautiful. I would highly recommend for a couple or a family-- they are 2 bed room 2 bath cabins. Their website is http://roseriverfarm.com/accommodations.html. Check them out and we made it from DC in 1:30-- DH speeds a little!!!

VRBO is Vacation Rentals By Owner, a website that lets people rent out their vacation places. Log on the website and you can select by area (state, town, by the water, ect.) and size and they will show you what is available then you contact the owner thmselves.

I hear that the leaves are peaking this next week and really want to get out to the SNP. Would love to book a cabin but it seems like just about everything is booked the next few weekends. I think we may try to take a day off and go up mid week and just head into work a little late the next day.

We did the Blue Ridge Wine Trail this weekend. What a nice getaway with DH.

What a fabulous place-- first class all the way. Leather lodge furniture, 42 inch SAT TV for DH to watch football Sat night. Nice grill area and fire pit for marshmallows. The cabin would really have been big enough for two couples but with us and our two kids it was really great. We hiked Old Rag Mountain and enjoyed a couple of the nearby wineries which are all kid friendly. Overall really relaxing weekend. Thanks to whoever posted about this place.

We just booked a weekend at Rose River Farm-- that place looks perfect.

No thanks on Misty Mount-- I like the oudoors but want to be able to relax at night and also want separate bedrooms for us and the kids-- that Rose River Farm looks more our speed.

LOL..not the OP of the Misty Mount post, but it's a great park! Of course, it's VERY bare-bones, so you'll find nothing more in the cabin besides a bed. No outlets, no kitchen facilities, etc. Wouldn't stay here if I was seeking a comfortable family vacation.

Glad to hear that your young kids made it fine-- I think we will try this fall. I just was on the website of Rose River Farm-- that place looks great and it right at Old Rag.

hiked Old Rag last Fall with my 6 yo and 8 yo - def not too young. the fun part was going up - going down the mountain is long and tedious.

We took our boys when they were about that age. It's a tough hike though and if they are not in shape they will be complaining for sure. I would recommend you do White Oak Canyon instead. The kids will love the waterfalls and it's a really pretty hike.
