I just came back from the store and there were husks covering the corn for sale. You may throw yours away, but other people are being pigs.

yes, but it's a nice change from all the other things we fight about.

fwiw, i do peel back just a tiny bit to check. and if i'm satisfied, i shuck it there if a trash can is provided. i do buy it if i shuck it. if i peel it back to check and it doesn't look good, i don't buy. if the store doesn't like it, it should send the bad product back like it does dented cans. also, if someone else peeled it back to check and returned it to the pile, i'd still buy it if it looked good to me.

PP here who said it was destructive - I've never gotten an ear I couldn't use. If the tip is bad, I just cut it off.

I too am from "corn country"--literally grew up across the street from a corn field in central Illinois. And EVERYONE there peels back a little of the top to check the kernels before buying. If you didn't, you would clearly be corn-illiterate.

how is this any different? if you get a bad ear you wouldn't use it. it's exactly the same as someone discovering in the store the ear is bad and leaving it there. the only difference is that you pay for bad corn.

I agree. It's general practice to peel back the corn but it's not necessary and I find it mildly obnoxious. I've had farmers throw extra ears in my bag in appreciation of not doing it.

People are idiots in DC. I swear to god, who needs to peel back the husk to check that it's good? You feel it through the husk and that's how you check for firmness and to make sure there aren't any blighted spots.

I'm from "corn country" and I think the ridiculous people peeling at the grocery store are missing the whole point of corn on the cob -- buying it in the husk so it's juicy! But whatever, people here seem to be very educated but lacking in all good sense

I has never seen shucking at the store or peeling back until I moved here. I am still amazed everytimei go to weathers giant and see people peel it back then stick it back in the pile. How much of the corn is really bad? Two bites?
