Are you thinking of this as a name for a real girl or for a dog?
What about bouganvillea?

I like Hyacinth. I think it's lovely and different, but nicknames would definitely be an issue. There just doesn't seem to be a good one and it's a mouthful on its own. Given this, I'd probably be more inclined to use it as a middle.

Strongly dislike Jacinda.

Theres also a horrible Hyacinth in Elizabeth Gaskells Wives and Daughters. It seems to be a name you give a certain type of woman...

The star character on that show is a plump middle-aged woman named Hyacinth - the worst social climber and snob the world has ever seen, except that her attempts always fail catastrophically and comically. She drags her long-suffering husband into the most hilarious schemes and unsuccessfully tries to avoid her low-class relations.

Anyway, to answer your question... it's not a good idea.

Ditto. In case anyone's wondering, just watch the first 32 seconds of this link from youtube, and you'll get an idea of Hyacinth's personality.

It's Hyacinth Bouquet, not Bucket. First thing I thought of when I saw the post.

Me too. But doubt that most people have that association.

NP here - I certainly do. Ick.

Me too. Horrid name.

Same here -- but I like the earlier suggestion of Jacinda.
