Considering a move into Glen Haven (with more affordable houses) versus Woodlin/Forrest Knolls/OTES which would be a stretch. Any current parents have kids there?

I have many friends whose kids go to Glen Haven and LOVE it! I only hear good things! Sounds like a great school.

Yeah, pretty cool to see the progress that this school has made over the past number of years. I was the poster who bumped this one after moving into the neighborhood. I prefer to bump old threads that come up as top Google results rather than starting a new thread.

Funny how this popped up again. Glen Haven has changed a lot in the last few years -- now a 7 on Great Schools! Feedback from parents is largely positive. I have an incoming kindergartner and have been asking around.

There are no boundary changes being proposed. Glen Haven is not currently overenrolled.

If anyone has any new thoughts about this school, I'd be curious to hear them. We are moving into the Glenview neighborhood that goes to this school

I would also love to hear from parents who currently send their children to Glen Haven. We have a 3-year-old so we have a few years to worry about this but it's already on my mind. It seems that everyone from the neighborhood sends their kids to St. John's (the one on Georgia) and I'm not sure we can afford to do that. I think if more people from the neighborhood sent their kids to Glen Haven we could work on improving what might be contributing to the bad rating on Great Schools. But I'm not anxious for my child to be a guinea pig.

I attended some of the meetings last year where the county discussed the plans for additions to DCC elementary schools and Glen Haven was one of them. Apparently there are no buses that bus kids to school. Everyone walks except special needs children. So I don't think they are going to be changing the boundaries of that school to include more area. I think they approved an expansion for this school, but I can't find the link to it.

Yes, send something to our list serve and that way I'll have your e-mail address and can get you in touch with my friend who has the 2nd and 4th graders there.

I know one parent who has a 4th grader and a 2nd grader there and she has been very satisfied. She says she respects the principal, though she can see why people might have problems with her. If they are getting a new principal that is probably a good thing. But I would not shy away from the neighborhood because of the school. It is an awesome community in a great location, and I know several people whose children have gone K - 12 with our zoned schools and all of those kids are now in good colleges and they all turned out just fine.

Thanks, PP. Good to hear. We love the nieghborhood, too (I'm not the original OP, but revived this thread since it was a question I had, too). I'm not concerned about Sligo or Northwood (or other DCC schools) since I have friends and family who have attended these schools and had great experiences. But we don't have any reference point for Glen Haven other than Great Schools (GH is currently rated a 3) and online posts that aren't all that recent. Unfortunately, we don't know anyone who sends their kids to GH, though I think I may post on our listserv.
