Not only baby kidnappers but opportunity thieves breaking into cars, etc.
If baby kidnapping was so rare why do you think hospitals would have such specific protocol and high tech material to watch and track every baby born there until the last minute before discharge?
Actually, baby kidnppings from hospitals were usually relatives - like estranged dad's or crazy ex-MILs.
If someone wants to kidnap a baby, they don't need to drive around looking for a newly arrived stork sign on a lawn, and guess what color it is. They just follow very pregnant woman matching the kind of kid they want from an OB's office and find out where they live.
That said, my neighbors put out wellcome baby signs for us when DS2 was born. My DH promptly took them down because he is a security freak.
