Depends, if you are a young couple in your 20s or early 30s I would say $100. After that $200. Older parents $300-500. Don't go broke on this, but don't give them $25. and have a blow out.

$100, but not cash. Check written to the church, with memo saying it was to go to the rector's discretionary fund.

$100. I believe there was a separate envelope. It’s been a while.

Seriously. I guess at least the priest is counting his money instead of molesting boys

I wonder how much Jesus gave John the Baptist for his baptism?

Forum would mean this whole site which well that's just dumb because we can say the same thing about "you pro priest" people.

Anyone that doesn't understand tipping will never get the idea of why it is required. The priest most often donates the money to a charity of his choice, but even if he did keep it why not share the joy of the occasion. You would have to have quite a few children to see this tip put a dent in your budget. It you are the kind of person who tips, give a tip to the priest. If you are not the kind that tips, don't worry about it, most people won't do it. It is a matter of class.

Yes, it is usual to offer a donation to the church for funerals, baptisms and weddings. Around here, it seems to be $100 for baptism, especially if done separately from the mass.

We are regular parishioners, too. I gave $100 extra to the church that day (in addition to what I'd pledged for the year) and something like $200 to the "priest's discretionary fund." Ask about that -- we're Episcopalian and I think every parish has one, in my experience. I bet a lot of churches have similar. Priests use it for all kinds of things -- as a way to help out people who need emergency help, mostly.
