Here is where I am confused - both the 1st graders and second graders took the same NNAT2's (right?)

And the cut-off is still the same at 130? How is that possible?

2nd graders took the NNAT2.

The 130 cutoff "trend" is based on the NNAT (last year) and NNAT2 (this year).

NNAT had a max score of 150. NNAT2 (version 2) has a max score of 160.

Irrespective of what grade it was administered in, I thought the NNAt always had a max score of 160.
Got DD's score on friday...she got a 145. Not sure where she'd stand.

The cutoffs are based on 2 standard deviations above the mean. The change in the upper bound of the test scores may change the actual cut off score, but the percent of kids should stay about the same, ~15%.

Don't have a first grader, but a Kindergartner, so am keeping an eye on the developments.


FCPS will announce the cutoff when they are building the 2nd grade pool. Therefore, students that are currently in Kindergarten will have the cutoff to be part of the 2nd grade pool in January 2013.

Again, the "cutoff" is not a cutoff for AAP Center eligibility. It is the cutoff for being included in the 2nd grade pool.

About 2/3 of the students that are in the 2nd grade pool are found Center eligible. In addition, students that are not in the initial 2nd grade pool are also found Center eligible. The percentage of students that are referred and not in the 2nd grade pool but are still found Center eligible varies from year to year.


obviously FCPS has too many people with too much time on their hands to come up with this crazy stuff

Thank you. Yes, I am aware that the cut off is for the screening pool only: I have a 4th grader in AAP so I've been through this once before. Just the switcheroo to 1st grade is a little confusing. It appears that keeping the screening pool cutoffs the same as previous years on a test that now has a max score of 160 (10 more points to be possibly scored) would have a lot more kids in the screening pool than before. Just curious what the process would be.

Still have not gotten DS's NNAT scores here either. Doubt they are in the mailbox today with school being closed yesterday.
