Yes, our son's (2.5yrs) pediatrician told us not to wake him for temp checks or for medicine, that the fever is how the body deals with infections. He said even 104 is fine. BUT, if the fever gets above 105, it's time for the ER, and you must work to cool him down.

Thank you, everyone. OP here. I went with the majority vote and went in to feel his forehead around the time the Ibuprofen would have been wearing off. He was hot but not Very Very hot. He woke up immediately, however. After "get out!" and "let's go outside!" he agreed to medicine and asked for lots of water, which he drank.

I'm glad I went in, for the water if nothing else. He slept late and has more energy this morning.
