Underclassmen fiinal exams were scheduled for Thurs, Fri last week and Mon/Tues this week. All half days. Grades were due after every final exam day, but changes could be made up until yesterday afternoon. Final verification of grades were due this morning.

My HSrs did NOT go and have not gone in since last week.

How do sophomores "just go home"? They don't drive.

Not true for all. My middle DS has a late Sept birthday and we held him back. So he turned 16 in Sept of his sophomore year and had his driver's license by Christmas. We happen to be walking distance to our high school so he didn't drive. But there is plenty of free, on street parking so if you are driving your sophomore year, you can park without needing a permit.

I have been guilty of sending my kids on the last day with no one else there. I’ve since learned to listen to my kids who say no one else will be there. Big difference between ES, MS, and HS.

Part of the problem is they should have been finished last week.

What communication?
By whom?
Should parents email the teachers and ask if the kids are really coming on the last day?
What do you think they will say?

My high schooler went because he wanted to see friends. but crazy it counts as a school day because it was 2 hours long and he said all they did was play on their phones.

I know we have 180 days of school but they are not all productive and HS has been a joke for the last 2 weeks.

It was over for the past 5 weeks. Even less people attended today at Longfellow. Avengers, boss baby, the sound of music, Judge Judy, lion 🦁 King, kung fu panda 🐼 4, Wall E, Soul, Parent Trap, Shrek 2,…. Each subject plays their own different movie 🎥 each day. Too many movies.

About few kids there ~ it's been this way for decades in all school systems around the DMV.

Both of my kids 3rd and 7th graders are at school today. They were excited and don't want to miss fun day. My 7th grader had a very busy school year and he kind of wanted to enjoy relaxed school days with friends. Unless travelling we don't usually miss last day of school.

My middle schooler went just because she likes to see her friends. They stopped working last week. It's been a lot of movies and coloring sheets handed out.

Our elementary looked as busy as usual. Teachers looked excited, everyone was in a great mood. Unless you travel, why miss it, kids are going to have some fun time with their friends and teachers before they all head out to their well deserved summer break.
