Correct, if you're referring to my post from 14:19, the person who told me about that usually subbed at elementary schools.

I don't remember the exact details and hours and was just throwing out numbers for illustrative purposes. But if I recall correctly, they said they were hoping that they got to stay through lunchtime at the school. Because if they did that, then they'd have enough hours to be paid for a full days work, regardless of what time they actually finish the day afterwards.

And as mentioned this was a while back too. So am not sure if things changed or I might have even understood or remembered correctly.

But also exactly, like a couple of posters expressed interest in it, a lot of the people who I knew were subs, were retirees who did it partially for the flexibility.

Why?

I retired from teaching last year. I was a special education teacher, so I sub for the special education teachers at the middle school I used to teach at. I bring home about $140 a day, that is with a little bump because I hold a teaching license. I like taking the co-teaching jobs because I know that I will be working with another teacher. I would try to take 2-3 days a week.

I snowbird to Florida, so I only sub when I am back in MD.

I was a sub and only got a full time teaching job when I agreed to go the Special Ed route. Not even the school I worked at as a permanent building sub would hire me for a teaching job despite 2 openings in my certification area because "They wanted someone with more experience"

Subbing is a great way to see if you are cut out for the teaching job! For the PP, who has been subbing for 3 years and hasn't found a positions it's because you haven't emailed your resume directly to principals in addition to completing the online job MCPS portal. Also it's best to stop by a school and leave your resume if you want a full time teaching job.

MCPS has excellent health insurance & dental benefits.
