Here's the thing about being a grown woman. You can wear whatever the hell you want, and if you like the look of the tiered dresses, wear them.

I like them. I also appreciate the more modest option for summer, when it used to be all spaghetti straps and low necks and shapeless sacks.

+1

Mutton dressed as lamb.

It's tied to the infantilization of women under the current regime.

I’m 5’7” with a DDD chest and 130 lbs. I’m not fat. I look horrible in these types of dresses.

I believe PP looks good in that dress.
I know two women at work who have worn similar dresses, probably the Anthro one, and they look really pretty and professional in them. They have really different body types too. One is tall and curvy and another is petite with a medium build.
I was inspired to try a few of these on by them and I did and looked really terrible.

I agree, OP. I’m not into them. I much prefer an a line above the knee desss or a an oversized t shirt dress for casual. There also aren’t blouses that don’t have lace or cutsy detail, which has made me pay more nicer non see through! T shirts. Not all of like to look like St Pauline’s girl or a milkmaid.

The Anthro Somerset dress looks really good on me; I like how I look and I always get compliments. I know it's probably very over, but it works really well for me as a tallish mid-40 something with a couple of kids and the midsection to show for it. I have a few of them.

FWIW, I don't like the Quince knock-off as the fabric isn't as nice.

Anonymous wrote:Oh my word, these dresses are so flattering on my body. I don’t do the big puff sleeves, but those tiers are magical for hiding mom belly. I’m tall, so I much prefer long dresses. What’s knee length other women is slightly indecent on me. Almost everyone I know wears them. It’s only large sleeves that look cutsie.

A gentle reminder that if you don’t have anything nice to say, you don’t have to say anything at all.

Critiquing fashion is just critiquing fashion. It's not a personal slight.

I love cascading flounces...

On the 6 to 18 year old set.

For middle aged adult women it looks silly

Yes! This look is just so tacky! It is awful.

A lot of these dresses are too long--ankle length, and are too full.

Many look like maternity clothes.

Sleeves that puff out at the shoulders are not for me, especially if they are really big and stand up.

Most women have given up. And I don't blame them. But let's call
This what it is, selling a ruffled "sack" in a bright pattern and calling it a dress.

Anonymous wrote:It's so frustrating! I look better with short sleeves b/c I've lost the upper arm muscle tone of my youth. But most dresses with short sleeves have that puffy sleeve which is not flattering at all, and feels ridiculous to wear as a 52 year old woman.

Everything is either puffed sleeve or spaghetti strap. Kill me now.

Hmm. I'm wracking (racking?) my brain, but I can't remember my mother wearing anything like this in the 70s.

My mom did have a tiered/flouncy dress in the late 70s. I think it might have had one of those wide elasticized necklines that you can wear off the shoulder. But in muted late-70s prairie colors, definitely not bright green.

Of course, when that style was in fashion almost 50 years ago (!!), my mother was in her early 30s. In my late 50s, I think this style feels too young for me. Perhaps if I were taller.
