It means current 5th and 8th graders will have to apply for a COSA every year they want to stay at a school that’s not their home school. And transportation won’t be provided

There are 3 MSMC schools, one of which is a child’s assigned home school.

I wouldn't put it past them but MCPS needs to clarify officially one way or another if kids who are grandfathered into the legacy DCC/NEC schools now have to seek COSAs annually to remain in those schools, and if transportation is or isn't included as part of that grandfathering.
If we go back to earlier discussions at BOE meetings, Taylor indicated transportation would be available to students completing studies at a consortia program outside home schools.
They say silly stuff like this but it’s not real. Like they say limited transportation will be provided for summer school. What that means in reality is they will provide transportation for special needs students they are required to transport by law, and they’ll direct the others to the free county ride on bus whether it comes near your home or not.

Fortunately, we planned for our rising 6th grader to attend their home MSMC school because we don’t trust MCPS. However, I warned anyone who would listen about things like this being a possibility, especially during the budget crunch.
Where did you see this? MCPS said many times that all students in consortia starting next year or earlier will be grandfathered in and allowed to stay until they finish, and that transportation will be provided. That's why they keep talking about how expensive transportation will be for the next 4 years while the grandfathered students are getting the transportation.
If this were true, why would Mullenhoz not reiterate the same message to DCC and MSMC families during the Woodward principal search process? In fact, he said the opposite!

Then when I replied that MSMC and DCC parents were confused and didn’t know this applied to them he wrote “a school assignment tool will be available soon across MCPS”.
This exchange was on May 4.
Also keep in mind that MCPS already offered people tbe option to move to their new school early.
