I think it depends on what part of Springfield (it is a big area). Like- North Springfield is the better location and has potential but it is not great. West Springfield has the typical NOVA neighborhoods with big trees and the neighborhood pools.

Springfield is ugly because of the same reason the rest of Arlington is ugly: unburied power lines everywhere, stroads, ugly stores. Nobody has good taste

Falls Church is so much nicer than Springfield.

I assume you are referring to FCC, which is its own thing, Falls Church zoned to McLean, which is desirable and nice but still more affordable than FCC and McLean due its lack of walkability, and the parts of FC Fairfax that are zoned to Justice.

I think the last one is the last bastion of relative affordability inside the Beltway but not for long. Prices have gone up quite a bit since I first moved here. I hate Trump but if he manages to get the criminal illegal element out (dubious given their incompetence but most people do support MS13 getting shipped out), that area has no where to go but up. It’s very convenient for commuting to Tyson’s and down the silver line and still not bad for DC, and the housing lots and stock are pretty generously sized for the price and location.

Also, there are other parts of Falls Church in Fairfax County besides those zoned to McLean or Justice. Those areas go to Marshall or Falls Church.

I don't know how springfield is any different than any other part of northern VA. I would nominate Alexandria as the butthole. Specifically the Hybla Valley/Rt 1 area. More than half of inside the Beltway is a total shithole... and I don't think Springfield is worse than Lorton, Annandale, Baileys' Crossroads, Seven Corners, and significant parts of Falls Church, Arlington, and Alexandria.

Public schools are usually the last and slowest to improve which often leads to underenrollment (no one wants to send kids to a bad school) and eventual closure rather than improvement. Seeing it in bad neighborhoods of the sf Bay Area. Decent people moving in but the school is still a dump

We lived there when first married and loved it. Our condo community was walkable to a gorgeous park, Whole Foods, restaurants. Great place!

and the Huntsman Motel is long gone... True story, one of my coworkers at a high security facility used to sneak out with another employee to get it on at lunch. It didn't bother her at all that he was engaged and getting married soon. He was gross. She was desperate.
