Sorry you’re facing this. A friend was glad to do it in their yard. My brother did his dog in the room the dog loved best.

How much does euthanasia cost - generally and in home if you know.

Our vet handled all the mundane matters in advance: payment, what to do with the ashes, questions about the euthanasia process and so on. On the day of, we just got down to the task at hand and they let us have some time after to say our final goodbye.

If you have another dog, make sure they are around for the passing. It matters. They understand death. If they don't see the death, it will be much harder for them to cope - they will continue to look for the other dog.

You are doing the right thing. The vet that helped us with this was a complete pro and it was a pretty peaceful and not lengthy process. It's very peaceful and not disruptive for the pet.

We had a 50 lb dog on her bed on the floor and a nearby table cleared off for the vet to use for supplies. There was some initial paperwork and payment etc. And then the vet just gently sedates the pet. In our case the vet took the remains for cremation which worked for us, but they will also return them to you if you prefer.

This is Op. We used where my dog settled. It was a place that worked (living room floor) and it would have been hard and potentially painful to move her. For anyone going through it for the first time I was glad I had quiet time with her alone before the vet arrived. The vet was great and not intrusive and kind. But when you have to say hello and talk through the logistics it is hard to pivot to something really personal like saying good bye and also block out the vets presence.

Where our dog settled down when the Vet arrived at the house. For one it is their favorite spot by the front door looking outside. For the other is was in their dog bed.

That’s lovely.

My condolences to everyone who had had to say goodbye to a beloved pet.

We had our dog euthanized in our foyer with all of us sitting on the floor around him. That was his favorite sleeping place -- everyone had to pass through and would love on him as they went. Our other dog was also present at the time and got to say good-bye in his own way.

When it's going to happen, bag-up all the dog stuff around the house. Get it out of sight. Maybe a dear friend would volunteer for this task when you're not around. You can do something responsible with all of it at a later time. When the event was over, the dog was gone and I reentered the house, I was grateful not to have dog things around the house to see.
